Planting & Care

Climate and Location: A native of Southeast Asia, the Hummingbird Tree will grow best in hot, humid climates, including growing zones 9-11. If you live in a cooler climate, plant your Sesbania Grandiflora in a patio container, where you can easily move it indoors when temperatures drop below 50 degrees.

Planting: If planting your Hummingbird Tree outdoors, choose a sunny location that’s well-protected from harsh winds – these trees are full-sun lovers (6-8 hours of sunlight daily). They will tolerate most well-draining soils. Dig a hole twice the size of your tree’s root ball, place your tree, and backfill with soil, tamping down as you go to remove air pockets.
